Privacy policy

Last updated . This page describes what the code actually does; if anything here stops matching, that's a bug — tell us.

Template — have this reviewed by a qualified professional for your jurisdiction before going live.

Account data

  • Email/password sign-up: name, username, email, an optional role (“I am a…”), and a salted scrypt password hash. We never store your password itself.
  • GitHub sign-in: your GitHub user ID, primary verified email, display name, bio, website and X handle, used to create or link your account.
  • Profile fields you choose to fill in (bio, website, X handle) are public on your maker profile.

What you post

  • Product listings, comments, reviews, stacks and maker updates are public.
  • Votes and follows are stored with your account; we show only totals publicly, plus aggregate breakdowns by role.
  • “Would you pay?” answers are shown publicly only as totals and a median price. Makers can read the optional written reasons, without your name.

Analytics and tracking

  • We count page views, outbound clicks and the referring site (e.g. “Google”, “ChatGPT”) per product, without cookies.
  • IP addresses are held briefly in server memory to de-duplicate counts and rate-limit abuse; they are never written to our database.
  • Your browser's local/session storage holds your theme choice, checklist progress and a “view already counted” marker. Nothing there is sent to us.
  • Maker conversion snippet: makers may add our script to their own site. It stores a marker in their site's local storage when you arrive from AskableHQ, and if you later sign up there, sends us an anonymous count. Makers using it should mention it in their own privacy policy.

Cookies

One essential, HTTP-only session cookie when you log in, and short-lived (10-minute) essential cookies during GitHub sign-in. No advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

Email

We email you for account security (password resets), your own launches (approval decisions, comments and reviews), launch reminders you asked for, updates from products you follow, and the newsletter if you subscribed. Activity and follow emails can be turned off in Settings; every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link.

Service providers

  • Hosting and database (Cloudflare): the site runs on Cloudflare Workers and stores account and site data in Cloudflare D1. Cloudflare processes every request, including your IP address, to deliver and protect the site, and keeps short-lived request logs we use for debugging.
  • Email delivery (Resend, when configured): recipient address and message content.
  • Payments (Stripe, when configured): your email and payment details are handled by Stripe; we only receive whether payment succeeded.
  • GitHub, if you choose to sign in with it.

Website audits

When you run an audit, we fetch the public homepage, robots.txt, sitemap.xml and llms.txt of the URL you provide. Anonymous tool results aren't stored; audits of listed products are stored with the listing.

Retention and your rights

We keep account data until you delete your account. You can export everything tied to your account or delete it permanently yourself from Dashboard → Settings. Deleting removes your account, comments, reviews, votes, follows, stacks and pay-poll answers; products you own are deleted unless a co-maker remains. Questions: hello@askablehq.lol.
